Roache (Francis M. “Mickey”) is born in South Boston.

The son of a longshoreman and homemaker, Mickey Roache graduates from South Boston High School, serves in the U.S. Marines, and joins the Boston Police Department in 1968. He becomes head of the newly-created Community Disorders Unit that investigate racial complaints in 1978,* serves as Boston Police Commissioner (1985-1993), runs unsuccessfully for mayor (1993), and serves on the Boston City Council (1996-2002), and as Suffolk County Registrar of Deeds (2003-2016). Roache dies in South Boston on December 17, 2018.
