Miller (Melvin B.) is born in Boston.

The son of John and Miller and his wife, Mel Miller grew grows up in the H-Block neighborhood of Roxbury, and graduates from Boston Latin School and , Harvard College, serves in the U.S. Army, and graduates Columbia Law School After working as an assistant U.S. attorney, he becomes founding publisher of the Bay State Banner in 1965.
