Jones (Hubie) is born in New York City.

The son of Hilma and Dorcas Jones, Hubie Jones grows up in the South Bronx, graduates from City College, marries Katherine Butler, and comes to Boston where he receives a master’s degree from Boston University in 1957. He works for Boston Children’s Services, helps found the Massachusetts Advocacy Center in 1970, serves as director of the Roxbury Multiservice Center (1966-71) and dean of the Boston University School of Social Work (1977-93). Jones becomes involved in numerous civil rights and educational reform efforts, and founds the Boston Children’s Chorus in 2003.* According to fellow City Year board member Charlie Rose, “Hubie Jones is the conscience of Boston.”
