Charles “King” Solomon is shot and killed.

The nightclub owner and reputed gangster is gunned down inside the men’s room of his Cotton Club nightclub at 892 – 894 Tremont Street. Apparently killed for the $4,600 said to be in his possession, Solomon’s last words are reputed to be, “The dirty rats got me.” He was also the owner of the Cocoanut Grove nightclub, which subsequently passes into the hands of his lawyer, Barnett Welansky, whose bookkeeper is Rose Gnecchio Ponzi, wife of the convicted swindler.
