Polaroid Corporation is established.
1932
Originally the Land-Wheelwright Laboratories, it is founded by Edwin Land and George Wheelwright and located initially in Boston. The company assumes its current name and is incorporated in 1937, moves to Cambridge in 1939, and subsequently develops the first “instant camera.” The company files for bankruptcy restructuring in 2001, and is purchased by One Equity Partners in 2002.
