The son of Ukrainian Jewish immigrants, Leonard Nimoy grows up at 87 Chambers Street, and makes his stage debut at age 8 in a production of Hansel and Gretel at the Elizabeth Peabody House in 1939. He attends the Mayhew School, graduates from English High School, leaves Boston for Hollywood in 1949, and studies acting at the Pasadena Playhouse. After playing a number of roles on television and in movies, Nimoy he is cast as Mr. Spock in the Star Trek television series in 1966. He goes on to become a director, writer, and accomplished photographer, and dies in Hollywood on February 27, 2015.
