Allied Arts Center is established.

1927

Founded by Maud Cuney-Hare and others, it is an outgrowth of the Musical Arts Studio founded by Cuney-Hare in 1925 and located initially at 295 Huntington Avenue. Its purpose is to encourage African-American young people with talent in art, drama, and music. It is notably located on the north side of Huntington Avenue, which James Guilford Jr. once called “The Maginot line [that divided white and black Boston].” The final play is performed at the center in December 1930.
