Charles Lindbergh Jr. begins his historic flight across the Atlantic in New York.

Lindbergh takes off in the Spirit of St. Louis from Roosevelt Field on Long Island at 7:52 A.M. Lindbergh becomes the first pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean when he lands at Le Bourget Field, near Paris, 33 and 1/2 hours later, on May 21, 1927.
