Negri (Gloria) is born in Providence, Rhode Island.

Raised by an Italian immigrant mother, who died when she was a teenager, Gloria Negri graduates from Brown University (then Pembroke College), works for a number of newspapers, and comes to Boston in 1959 as a general assignment reporter for the Boston Globe. In her subsequent 53-year career with the paper, she covers everything from the launch of the first moon landing, to Ted Williams’ last game and the requiem Mass for the late John F. Kennedy in Hyannis. Negri retires in 2012, dies in Scituate on December 10, 2017, and makes one last contribution to the Globe in 2023.*
