George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue receives its world premiere in New York City.

The piece is performed by Paul Whiteman and his Concert Orchestra as part of “An American Experiment in Modern Music” at Aeolian Hall. Gershwin began composing it while on a train from New York to attend a performance of another of his works in Boston.
