Chaloff (Serge) is born in Boston.

The son of pianists Julius and Margaret (Stedman) Chaloff, Serge Chaloff begins playing piano, then clarinet, and final baritone sax. Called by some “The first ‘bop’ baritonist,” he subsequently moves to New York City and plays in bands led by George Auld, Jimmy Dorsey and Woody Herman. Chaloff returns to Boston in 1952. plays locally for a short time, then moves to Los Angeles, where he dies on July 16, 1957.
