Hall (Obie) is born in Boston.

(ca.) Obie Hall grows up in Roxbury, enlists in 1942, when he tells the recruiting officer that he was a truck driver, even though, he later admits, “I could no more drive a truck than a man in the moon.” Thought to be the first African-American from Boston to serve in the U.S. Marines, he is forced to attend basic training at segregated camp at Montford Point, North Carolina. Hall serves in the Marshall and Solomon Islands during World War II. Returning to Boston, he lives on Blue Hill Avenue across from Franklin Field and goes to work for the Boston Housing Authority. Hall dies on August 15, 2003.
