Sacco and Vanzetti Case begins in South Braintree.

April 15, 1920

Armed robbers and kill a paymaster Frederick Parmenter and guard Alessandro Beradelli at the Slater Morrill Shoe Factory. Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti are arrested in Bridgewater on May 5, 1920, and subsequently charged with the crime. They go on trial in Dedham in 1921,* and over the next few years, according to Barbara Miller Solomon, “In Boston, the pair of Italians had become a symbol of alien mindedness, an evil to be stamped out of a Yankee Society determined to preserve itself and its culture.”
