South End Women’s Club is established.

Founded by Eleanor H. Woods, its purpose is to improve the neighborhood. Members include rooming house landladies, later described by Boston Globe as, “the women who open hospitable doors to welcome the stranger who seeks a residence in the city—a one-room home that is really a home.”
