Longy School of Music is established.
1916
Founded by Georges Longy, it is located initially at 103 Hemenway Street. Longy, first oboist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is the first director. He is succeeded by his daughter, Renee Longy-Miquelle, in 1925. The school operates in the style of the French conservatory. It moves to Cambridge in 1930.
