Mafia begins operating in Boston.

[1915-DD] It is founded by Sicilian immigrant Gaspar Messina, who lives at 275 North Street [330], and operates out of his bakery. It is reputed to be the first organized crime family in Boston. The organization is taken over by another Sicilian immigrant, Filippo “Phil” Buccola, also of the North End, in 1932, then by Raymond Patriarca of Providence, who allegedly becomes the boss of all organized crime in New England, in 1954.
