Miracle Braves win the World Series.

October 13, 1914

Boston Braves beat the Philadelphia Athletics 3-1 to win the championship in game 4 at Fenway Park. The team earned its nickname for winning the pennant after being in last place on July 18th then winning 61 of its last 77 games, and their victory in the World Series prompts the Boston Globe to call Boston “The land of the free and the home of the Braves.” Red Sox owner (and former Braves minority partner) Joe Lannin let the Braves play their September and October homes games at Fenway Park in order to take advantage of its larger seating capacity.
