South End Music School is established.
1910
Founded by Annie Nourse, it is located initially at 19 Pembroke Street. Its purpose is to “meet the need of the people for music . . . to foster the love of music, by offering good instruction at nominal prices . . . by giving opportunities to hear and appreciate good music.” The school moves to 36 Rutland Street (32) in 1914. It merges with the Boston Music School Settlement to become the Community Music Center at the Boston Center for the Arts in 1968 and is located today at 34 Warren Avenue.
