Russell (Francis) is born in Boston.

Francis Russell grows up on Wellington Hill in Mattapan, attends the Martha Baker School, graduates from Roxbury Latin School, Bowdoin College, and receives a master’s degree from Harvard University. He becomes a journalist and historian, with a particular interest in Boston politics. Russell dies in Falmouth on March 20, 1989.
