Alois Anderle wins the first annual Boston Light Swim.

1908

The Austrian is declared the winner in the first of what would become an annual race – but subsequently disqualified for walking across an exposed sandbar at Nix’s Crag. Initially a 12-mile race, it is held every year until the outbreak of World War II, then resumed in 1978. The original route is from the Charlestown Bridge to the Boston Light and back. The route now measures eight miles and starts at Boston Light and ends at the M Street Beach.
