New England College of Optometry is built.

Architect: Schweinfurth, J.A. The limestone-fronted buildings are located at 424 – 426 Beacon Street. Founded by August Klein in 1894, it was located initially at 2 Rutland Street. The oldest continuously operating optometry school in the U.S., it moves to 168 Massachusetts Avenue in 1916, to 1112 Boylston Street in 1933, to 472 Commonwealth Avenue in 1943, and to Huntington Avenue in 1945. Incorporated as a nonprofit, it moves to 178 Newbury Street in 1948. Renamed the Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1950, it moves to 420 – 426 Commonwealth Avenue in 1961, and assumes its current name in 1976.
