African-American residents begin moving to the South End.

(ca.) Drawn by the proximity to Boston’s railroad stations (railroads offer some of the best job opportunities for African-Americans at the time), they move primarily from the West End and settle initially in the lower South End, between Washington Street and Columbus Avenue. As their numbers increase, they move across Massachusetts Avenue along Northampton Street to Camden, Kendal, Sawyer, and Windsor Streets.
