Fort Warren is manned during the Spanish-American War.

Abandoned after the Civil War, the fort is also manned in World War I. De-commissioned in 1928, it is re-commissioned during World War II. The federal government turns it over to the Metropolitan District Commission in 1951(1957), which opens it to the public in 1961.
