MGH Institute of Health Professions opens.
January 1, 1896
Originally the Boston Training School for Nurses, it opens at 55 Fruit Street on November 1, 1873. Four students are in the first class. The third nurses’ training school in the country, it is based on principles developed by Florence Nightingale. Incorporated in 1896, it adopts its current name in 1981 and moves to the Charlestown Navy Yard in 2001.
