Boston Public Library Lions are installed.

1895

Artist: Louis St. Gaudens. The pair of statues are located on the landings of the grand stairwell inside the Boston Public Library McKim Building. Commissioned to honor the Massachusetts Second Infantry and Massachusetts Twentieth Infantry, they began as plaster models, which were then carved out of unpolished Siena marble. The statues are referenced when the adjacent Johnson Building is renovated by the inclusion of light-up sculptures of lion cubs by 42 Design Fab in 2015.
