Haddon Hall is built.
1895
Architect: J. Pickering Putnam. It is located at 29 Commonwealth Avenue. A luxury apartment house, it is the tallest building in Boston up to this time. Its construction prompts a successful campaign led by the Twentieth Century Club to establish height restrictions in the neighborhood in 1896.* Subsequently converted to business and professional offices, it comes to be called the “Dentists’ Building.” An attempt to convert the building to a private club is abandoned after neighborhood residents oppose it in 2017.
