Wood Island Park is added to the Boston Park system.
1891
Designed by Charles Olmsted, it subsequently includes a beach, tennis courts, a track, picnic areas, and a municipal building and bathhouse designed by Sturgis & Cabot, and is completed in 1895. It is subsequently renamed World War Memorial Park. A portion of the park is taken for construction of an airport in 1922, and the remainder for expansion of the airport in 1969 [1968].
