Vincent Memorial Hospital is dedicated.

April 6, 1891

Founded by friends of Mary Ann Vincent, a Beacon Hill resident and actress who died in 1887, it is located initially at 44 Chambers Street. The 10-bed hospital provides health care for women and is later the site of the development of the first “Pap Smear” test. The hospital moves to South Huntington Avenue in 1908 and becomes the Gynecological Service at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1940. A new hospital is built in 1948.*
