The number increases over the next 10 years as large numbers of Jews from Poland and Russia begin arriving. According to William Leahy, “the Jewish invasion, beginning in the 90’s, flooded successive strata of old Americans, Negroes and Irish out of the West End until the invaders themselves, multiplying and prospering, were forced to take over great areas in Dorchester, Roxbury, Chelsea and Brookline.”
