Franklin Park is named.
November 10, 1885
Boston Park Commissioners vote to rename West Roxbury park after Benjamin Franklin in hopes that the income from the Franklin Fund, which can first be dispensed at the centennial of its creation in 1891, will be used to help pay for the park’s maintenance. But the money from the Franklin Fund is never used for the park or for the Parks Department by the time the fund is dissolved in 1991.
