Adams-Nervine Asylum is established.

1880

It is located on the former J. Gardiner Weld estate at 990 Centre Street. Incorporated in 1877, the institution is supported by a bequest from Seth Adams, a Boston sugar merchant, to serve “indigent, debilitated, nervous people, inhabitants of the State, who are not insane.” Dr. Frank Page is the first director. The hospital is absorbed by Faulkner Hospital in 1975. The buildings close in 1976 and are later converted to condominiums.
