Frederick Prince is reelected mayor of Boston.

December 9, 1879

Prince (D), with 18,697 votes, defeats Solomon Stebbins, with 16,083, and others to be reelected to his second consecutive term as mayor and third overall. He now lives at 5 Walnut Street. Prince touts Boston’s place as a model to other cities, declaring in his inaugural address on January 12, 1880, “Boston occupies a high position among the cities of the country. It is in some respects regarded as a model city, as it receives constant applications for information touching its management of municipal matters and its administrative methods.”
