Massachusetts Bicycle Club is established.

January 10, 1879

Founded by Albert Pope and others, it is the second bicycle club in Boston. It moves to a new building on Newbury Street in 1885.* In the early 1890s, it becomes is one of the first bicycle clubs to admit women in the U.S., although the women are subsequently asked to resign. The organization subsequently moves to Parker Street.
