Boston City Hospital Training School for Nurses opens.
January 22, 1878
Directed by Linda Richards, it is the fifth school of nursing in the U.S. and the first nursing school to operate under the auspices of a hospital system in the U.S. The school subsequently buildings residences for nurses on Massachusetts Avenue and East Springfield Street. It closes in May 1975.
