Frederick Prince is elected mayor of Boston.
December 12, 1876
Prince (D), with 16,582 votes, defeats Nathaniel Bradley (R), with 13,782. Prince lives at 311 Beacon Street. He was backed by ward boss Patrick Maguire, “the only city-wide boss Boston ever had,” according to John Galvin J.T., and for the next twenty years, “party decisions were made in the back rooms of Maguireās real estate office.” As mayor, Prince adopts the plan for the park system.
