Boston Water Board is established.

It replaces the Cochituate and Mystic Water Board. Timothy Sawyer, former mayor of Charlestown, is the first chairman. The board successfully advocates for construction of a “high service” pumping station in Chestnut Hill that is completed in 1887.*
