Hyde Park Branch Library (first) opens.

It is located in Cobb’s Block (3/1874, Everett Block-BLC) on the corner of Harvard Avenue and River Street. The library moves across the street to the Masonic Block (second) in 1884, then to a new building at its original site on Harvard Avenue (third) in 1899.*
