Congregation Shomre Shabbos is established.

Founded by Russian Jews, it meets initially on Hanover Street. The first Eastern European synagogue and first synagogue North End, it moves to Elm Street in 1880 and to the corner of Hanover and Elm Streets in 1885. It merges with Congregation Beth Abraham to become Congregation Shomre Beth Abraham in 1886.*
