Sanders (Orren Strong) House is built.

Architect: Thomas Silloway. Designed in the German Gothic style, it is located at 511 Columbus Avenue. It is built for the homeopathic physician, who lives here until his death in 1898. The granite lions in front carved by Giovanni Bettelini subsequently give rise to an urban legend (untrue) that it was once the home of P.T. Barnum.
