South Boston Branch Library (first) is dedicated.

(April) It is located initially on the second floor of the Masonic Building at 372 West Broadway. The second branch library in the U.S., it is closed when the building is sold in 1948. It reopens in a storefront at 385 West Broadway in June 1950 until that building is destroyed by fire in May 1957. A new building, which merges with the City Point Branch, opens five in October 1957.*
