Artist: W.W. Lummis. It is located in Eliot Square on the former site of the Eliot School at today’s 793 Centre Street, hereafter called Monument Square. Built of Quincy granite, it is a memorial to the soldiers from what was then the Town of West Roxbury who died in the Civil War. A boulder of Roxbury puddingstone commemorates the soldiers from the Third Parish of Roxbury killed in the war. Rev. T.F. Clarke is the principal orator at the ceremony.
