Christel Orvis is admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture.

The first woman admitted to the M.I.T. School of Architecture, the Jamaica Plain resident is only accepted because the school is required to admit women because of its land grant status. Sophia Hayden Bennett becomes the first woman to graduate from the four-year architectural program in 1890.
