Howe (M.A. DeWolfe) is born in Bristol, Rhode Island.

M.A. DeWolfe Howe graduates from Lehigh College and comes to Boston to attend graduate school at Harvard. He subsequently lives at 16 Louisburg Square. Howe becomes editor of Youth’s Companion and then The Atlantic Monthly, an essayist, historian, literary critic, and biographer of Boston literary figures. Howe dies in Cambridge on December 6, 1960.
