St. Gregory’s Church is dedicated.
April 7, 1864
Designed in the Romanesque Revival style, the church is located at 2221 Dorchester Avenue. The oldest Catholic church in Dorchester, its construction began on August 16, 1863. The parish was set off from Saints Peter and Paul Parish in South Boston in 1862 and met initially in Lyceum Hall. Thomas McNulty is the first pastor. The church is substantially altered and enlarged, with two towers and a large stained glass window added in 1895.
