Hyde Park Woolen Company Mill is built.

John Bleakie is head weaver of the new company. It subsequently becomes R. Bleakie and Company Woolen Mills when it is taken over by his sons, John Bleakie and Robert Bleakie and Charles Allen. The mill is destroyed by a fire in 1873 and rebuilt. By the 1890s, the company is the largest employer in Hyde Park with 350 workers.
