Charlestown Public Library opens.

It is located initially in the Warren Institution for Savings building. The library moves to the new Charlestown City Hall in 1869. It becomes the Charlestown Branch Library when it moves to Monument Square in 1913.* The current branch library opens at 179 Main Street in 1970.
