Farwell (Nathaniel) House is built.

1860

Built for William Carnes and purchased by the sea captain and abolitionist in 1869, it is located at 558 Massachusetts Avenue (then 39 Chester Square). The house is used to shelter runaway slaves and becomes the headquarters of the League of Women for Community Service in 1920.
