Hallet & Davis factory (first) is completed.
1859
It is located in the former Chickering Piano Company’s warehouse at 700 Harrison Avenue. The expansion of the original building necessitated the moving of some graves in the adjacent South End Burying Ground. The company was established as Hallet & Brown in 1835 and assumed its subsequent name in 1843. It goes on to produce 2,500 pianos a year and open a showroom at 179 Tremont Street. The factory moves to a new building on Hallet Street in 1911,* and the Harrison Avenue building is demolished in 1970.
