Hotel Bellevue (first) is built.

It is located at 17 Beacon Street. Purchased by Dr. Dio Lewis in December 1868, who adds an eighth floor to the building, it becomes a temperance hotel, includes Turkish baths, and an alcohol-free and vegetarian restaurant. The building is replaced by a new one (second) in 1899.*
