G.A. Sawyer & Company is established.

Founded by George Sawyer, the store moves to the newly-built Thomas Building at 130 Tremont Street in 1887. The store is subsequently operated by Sawyer’s son and then grandson and moves to Boylston Street. It closes in 1974.
